About Katherine Pickett

I am the owner of POP Editorial Services, LLC, and the author of the award-winning book Perfect Bound: How to Navigate the Book Publishing Process Like a Pro, now in its second edition. I earned my bachelor’s degree in English from Loyola University Chicago and have been involved in the publishing industry for 25 years.

Beginning with an internship in 1999, I spent 5 years as a production editor with McGraw-Hill Trade in Chicago, managing 10-15 nonfiction trade titles a season, before moving on to the medical textbook publisher Elsevier Inc. in St. Louis.

In 2006, I left Elsevier to start my own company, POP Editorial Services, and am now a full-time freelance copyeditor, proofreader, developmental editor, and writing coach. (You can find a complete list of services here .)

Professional development has been a constant part of my career, including training in fiction and nonfiction editing. A strong believer in the collaborative approach to editing, I adapt my style to fit the needs of my clients. My editing experience ranges from nonfiction trade and academic books to memoir and genre fiction to corporate reports and web content.

I am an active member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, the Independent Book Publishers Association, and the Authors Guild, and am a past president of the Maryland Writers Association, Montgomery County chapter. I live in Silver Spring, Maryland, with my handsome and strong husband, Chris, and our two awe-inspiring daughters.
